The New York Times published a profile of former congressman Dick Armey that described the FreedomWorks CEO as “a shadow majority leader,” “an evangelist of the Austrian school of free market economics” and representing “the libertarian wing” of the Republican Party.
What the Times forgot to mention is Armey’s views on Palestinians; specifically, his belief that Israel should annex the West Bank and expel the indigenous Arab population; a move known since the Bosnian civil war as “ethnic cleansing.” Not only does he hold these beliefs, but he expressed them openly on Hardball, hosted by Chris Matthews back in 2002:
“MATTHEWS: Well, just to repeat, you believe that the Palestinians who are now living on the West Bank should get out of there?
Rep. ARMEY: Yes.”
Dick Armey. What’s in a name?
