Juan Cole On Iraq

Juan Cole recently wrote:

In Iraq, masses began converging from the south and from Diyala province in the east on Baghdad, heeding the call of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr for a million-person demonstration to mark what the Sadrists and many Sunnis see as 8 years of American military occupation.

So it really depends on who you ask. Some people see it as an occupation (Juan Cole is obviously not one of them). Some see it as liberation. The truth is lost somewhere in between. Don’t expect to find it at juancole.com.

Small Sunni crowds in Falluja and in Adhamiya in Baghdad got a head start by rallying on Friday, chanting against the United States and saying it had imposed Iranian rule on Iraq (yes).

Would it have killed him to put a (yes) following the sentence on American military occupation? A little selective about which occupations we acknowledge, aren’t we Professor Cole?
